Market Day

On Saturday, June 10, the Bergen Market Day will be held for the 41st time. Since 1977 this has been a one-day festival for both city dwellers and those from rural districts, to maintain, promote, and celebrate Norwegian coastal culture in the trade city of Bergen. The Market Day is an annual red letter day on which the Market square is filled with exciting experiences, sights, sounds, and smells. Local coastal culture makes its mark on the Market square on this day with boats, song, music, traditional folk songs, storytelling, fishing, traditional food and crafts for men and women.

The Market Day is an annual red letter day for both city dwellers and those from rural districts. On this day, Torget (Bergen's market square) and Bergen Harbour pulsates with exciting sights, sounds, smells, and experiences. The coastal culture makes its mark on Torget and the Harbour with big and small boats, songs, musical performances, traditional folk songs, storytelling, fishing, and traditional boat making crafts and costumes. Old crafts and cooking methods are displayed and food and farm tools are for sale at Torget in cooperation with the local Farmers Market. The Market Day is organized by "Torgdagen i Bergen" in close cooperation with several coastal culture organizations as a way to maintain old trading traditions, and to contribute to the development of the coastal culture in and around Bergen. Old fjord and sailing ships and row boats come from miles around to the city to participate in this celebration of traditional Norwegian trading, fishing, and coastal culture. The Market Day is free and open for everyone.

An unbelievably great day in Bergen every year!
