The official opening of the festival is happening at Nykirken Church and at the Institute for Marine Research Shed #17 at Nykirkekaien on the 8th of March. For five days each March, Borealis takes over the city with musical experiments from Bergen, Norway, and the rest of the world. Borealis gives you concerts, art installations, shows, lectures, and film screenings in many of the city’s big and small concert venues, art galleries, cultural arenas and other strange and quirky places you probably haven’t experienced before. Borealis works with contemporary composers, sound artists, improvisational performers, and professional musicians to develop projects that restructure our musical world. You’ll be challenged to question what music can be, and where it can take you. Borealis is not one type or genre of music, but instead a gateway to the most daring and creative artists and musicians who give us something new on our path forward. Borealis is open for everyone; from the novice listener to the musical expert, from the youngest listeners to the oldest and wisest. Borealis invites you on a journey through new musical worlds!
