As a reformation city, Bergen invites you to public festivities and academic immersion. Luther and the protestant reformation have made indelible marks on our entire society. Some of it is to be celebrated, some of it to be debated. We look forward to welcoming everyone to experience art and culture, to reflect on societal development, to experience Bergen in light of the reformation, and to celebrate grace. On October 31, 2017 it will be 500 years since the German monk Martin Luther revealed his famous theses in the city of Wittenberg, which came to change large parts of the world. Bergen is the Norwegian representative in an international network of 68 European reformation cities. We want to present traces of the reformation in today’s society, celebrate the fruits of the reformation, and inspire people to debate our societal values.
